Sarah Fichtner completed her studies of Ethnology in 2005 at the Institut für Ethnologie of the Free University of Berlin (Supervisor: PD Dr. Thomas Zitelmann) und since then worked at the Institut für Ethnologie und Afrikastudien in Mainz and at LAM, Bordeaux-France. She did fieldwork in West Africa (i.e. Benin).

She completed her doctorate in 2011 in Mainz; her thesis was published with the title: "The NGOisation of Education. Case Studies from Benin" .

She is currently doing research on competency-based/ learner-centred education reforms in West and Central Africa and on the everyday life of children under 6 living in asylum seekers’ homes in Berlin.

As a DAAD fellow she was a guest researcher from 01.10.2015 to 31.03.2016 at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Free University of Berlin.

Since 2016 she is a  Research Fellow of the Robert Bosch Academy.

She  teaches a course in summer semester 2016 at this institute.
