Prof. Dr. Jacob K. Olupona is Professor of African Religious Traditions, with a joint appointment as Professor of African and African American Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA).

As a Laureate of the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation, he is a guest researcher at our institute from November 2015 to June 2016.

"Prof. Dr. Jacob K. Olupona is a leading authority in the comparative study of religion in West Africa. His research has made a unique contribution to the understanding of African indigenous religion in Nigeria, as well as the dynamics of civil religion and religious pluralism in Africa and the African diaspora. In Germany, Professor Olupona continues his research on recent articulations of Christian identity in the context of Nigerian popular culture, public space and civil society. Professor Olupona is hosted by Professor Hansjörg Dilger at Freie Universität Berlin."
