Discussion on Challenges in Journalism

To mark the 75th anniversary of the German Federation of Journalists and Freie Universität, a panel discussion with media representatives will take place on November 21.

News from Nov 14, 2023

The panel discussion will take place on November 21, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in Lecture Hall A of the Henry Ford Building at Freie Universität Berlin. The public is cordially invited. Registration is not required.

Céline Weimar-Dittmar, editor of Klima-taz and freelance journalist/podcaster, Gabriel Bub, editor for security policy at Table.Media, and Steffen Grimberg, state chairman of the DJV Berlin, will take part in the discussion. The moderator will be Prof. Dr. Margreth Lünenborg, communication scientist at the Free University of Berlin.

After a brief look back, the focus will be on the current challenges facing journalism: Traditional business models are eroding, public service broadcasting is under considerable pressure to legitimize itself, and working conditions in journalism are becoming increasingly precarious. In this situation, professional representatives with many years of experience will discuss the importance of journalism in a democratic society, necessary changes and innovations as well as new formats and business models with young journalists who have studied at the Institute of Journalism and Communication Studies.
