During EJF program the participants have the opportunity to take a two-semester leave from their professional positions and spend a sabbatical year at the Freie Universität Berlin widening their knowledge while pursuing a their research project. The rich learning resources of Berlin Universities are available to the fellows. At the same time the EJF programme enables participants to network with colleagues from different countries. Additionally, weekly discussions, cultural events, excursions and study tour around Germany are offered. Below you will find information about all the program points. The participation in or carrying out of all the mentioned program points is obligatory for all scholarship holders.
At the end of the fellowship every fellow is required to submit the final report in German or in English, which should contain a summary of the research project, a detailed overview of the work done on the project and the results of it (50-80 pages).
Every month a “colloquium” (meeting) takes place, where each fellow reports about the progress on his/her research project. At the same time these meetings offer an opportunity for an intensive exchange between the fellows.
At the beginning of the program (in October) the orientation week takes place in order to have the opportunity to meet other fellows, to settle matters with authorities and to become acquainted with Berlin and its environs. So, the first two weeks have to be planned for EJF activities only.
At the beginning of the program each fellow makes a presentation of his/her abstract of the research project, which is a part of application, to other scholarship holders.
Every Wednesday from 18:00 to 20:00 a Jour fixe takes place. Representatives of politics, culture, mass media and academic world participate in these discussions. Usually after Jour fixe a small dinner is organised, at which all the participants are welcomed.
Personal Experience Report
At the end of the fellowship every fellow should submit a personal experience report, which gives an overview of the personal and working experience made during their stay in Berlin.
Seminar and Course Plan
At the beginning of each semester every fellow should submit a seminar and course plan, so to give the mentors an overview of the university activities of the fellows.
EJF team offers a varied cultural and social program, like visits to theater, concerts and excursions, discussions, day trips, etc. The participation in these activities for the fellows is not obligatory. EJF team will be happy to meet your interest.
The progress report is to be submitted in the middle of February and gives the information about the progress made on the research project and expected completion of the work.
