The successful applicant will cover the area named above in research and teaching, and become a directorate member of the ‘Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society’.
Due to the responsibilities as a directorate member of the Weizenbaum Institute, the teaching responsibilities of the appointee are reduced to 50% during the first phase of the joint project funded by BMBF and coordinated by WZB.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
Successful candidates will have acquired their PhD and additional academic achievements (cf. Article 100, Sec. 2 and 6 BerlHG) in communication studies or a related social science. We are looking for someone with excellent verifiable accomplishments in academic and/or applied research in the field of digitalization and/or participation. She or he will be experienced in university teaching, networking and have an excellent track record of research activities, preferably internationally. The candidate is expected to have experience in acquiring funding for, and carrying out, sponsored research.
Additionally, the following qualifications are desirable for a successful application: experience in managing joint research programs or research institutes, mentoring and realization of activities related to knowledge and technology transfer (e.g. industrial cooperation), and activities in scientific policy advice.
Apart from the official duties that the appointee has to fulfil in accordance with Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act in particular, the following activities need to be fulfilled in addition:
The appointee will engage in teaching courses of the study programs offered by the institute for media and communication studies, especially courses related to the digital transformation of media and communication and is expected to also address gender and diversity issues relevant to the discipline.
