Curriculum Vitae

PhD Political and Social Sciences (European University Institute, Florence), MSc (European University Institute, Florence), Diplom in Political Science (Freie Universität Berlin).Christian joined the Center for Transnational Relations, Foreign- and Security Policy in April 2010 as a lecturer in International Relations. Previously, he was a PhD researcher at the European University Institute in Florence. In his thesis (which he defended in April 2010) Christian inquires under which conditions firms engage in corporate social responsibility. The thesis applies transaction cost economics and the concept of asset specificity to analyze intra-firm relationships and dynamics as factors for corporate social responsibility. These factors are then assessed in the context of the textile and automotive industries in South Africa and China. Between 2006 and 2010 Christian also worked for the research center “governance in areas of limited statehood” (SFB 700). The project he specifically pursued with collaborators at the center investigated in how far and under which conditions firms in areas of limited statehood contribute to a strengthening of the regulatory capacities of state agencies. At the Center for Transnational Relations, Foreign- and Security Policy Christian will continue his research in the fields of global governance, business and politics and intellectual history of International Relations.
