FFU wins Berlin Academic Award for Sustainable Development

The project „German-Indian Sustainability and Climate Change Dialogue“ of the Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU), Freie Universität Berlin and teri University (New Delhi) bestowed prestigious award for being the outstanding example amongst Berlin’s academic community with respect to the implementation of the The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.

On 30 November 2009 the collaborative project, „German-Indian Sustainability and Climate Change Dialogue“, was awarded first prize from the city of Berlin with regard to "Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung" (Education for Sustainable Development) – this, within the context of the dialogue platform "Bildung – Wissenschaft – Nachhaltigkeit: Praxisbeispiele aus Wissenschaft und Forschung”. The high-ranking Jury selected the FFU-initiated project out of more than 50 submissions from different disciplines, ones that featured a diverse array of innovative ideas and outstanding approaches to global challenges. According to the Jury, the project is an exceptional example for an academic contribution to “Education for Sustainable Development”.

The prize - "Education for Sustainable Development" - was awarded by Almuth Nehring-Venus, Permanent Secretary for Economics, Technology and Women’s Affairs and Dr. Hans-Gerhard Husung, Permanent Secretary for Science at the Berlin Senate to three projects.

The „German-Indian Sustainability and Climate Change Dialogue“ GISCCD is a dialogue platform of the Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU) at Freie Universität  Berlin, the teri University and The Energy and Resources Institute (teri) in New Delhi. The GISCCD brings together decision-makers from business, politics, science and civil society from India and Germany. Workshops and conferences are initiated in order to nurture debate regarding the challenges and chances of climate protection and sustainable development. An important part of the programme is bilateral academic exchange and networking of guest students and researchers with experts of the host country.
