Project description:

LIAISE (Linking Impact Assessment Instruments to Sustainability Expertise) is a Network of Excellence in the field of Impact Assessment (IA), that is funded within the 7th EU-Framework Program.

The aim of the project is to improve the operational relevance and use of IA tools by uniting the multi-disciplinary competences of large European institutes in the field of IA tools.

Within the project, a toolbox in support of IA processes in Europe and the Member States will be developed. The toolbox combines and further improves models developed in previous research projects and collects data and examples of good practices for their application. Also, the tools will be examined in test cases and training courses and instructions on Impact Assessment will be developed for their application.

Thereby, the NoE will attract research also beyond the consortium, will contribute to the construction of an enduring center of excellence and will offer support for IA beyond the project duration.

By bringing together policy makers and scientists with different disciplinary backgrounds, the LIAISE networks will develop an interface between academia and policy makers to generate policy relevant knowledge in the field of sustainable development. LIAISE offers not only researchers the attractive possibility to edit and provide their scientific results for the use of IA. It also provides officials with the opportunity to use this knowledge in a user-friendly manner for policy development. Thereby, the quality of legal undertakings and the early integration of aspects of sustainable development shall be improved.
