Berlin Sustainability Talk: Can there be Cross National Learning in the Diffusion of Environmental Policy?

Mar 25, 2010 | 02:00 PM

Lecture and discussion with Dr. David Dolowitz, University of Liverpool and Dr. Dale Medearis, Northern Virginia Regional Commission (USA)

The absence of specific concrete outcomes from the climate negations in Copenhagen last December, has unleashed concerns and doubt about effective and meaningful long-term solutions to address climate change. But even in the absence of a formal and global agreement on climate change, there are multiple and numerous activities in Europe and North America focused on the development and implementation of meaningful climate mitigation and climate adaptation policies. As Europe and North America work to structure domestic energy and climate policies, there will be opportunities to share lessons and promote cross-national exchanges among national and sub-national actors.

Invited to share thoughts about this phenomena of cross-national policy transfer and means to formalize it between Europe and North America are Dr. David Dolowitz (University of Liverpool) and Dr. Dale Medearis (Northern Virginia Regional Commission).

The Berlin Sustainability Talk is a monthly brown bag seminar at the Environmental Policy Research Centre (ffu). It presents a forum for discussion and exchange about ongoing research projects and recent trends in environmental policy research with scholars of other institutes, business representatives, politics, and public administrations as well as the interested public.
