The research group regularly organizes a monthly seminar series entitled "Berlin Sustainability Talk" on current research and policy discussions in the field of environmental policy and sustainable development. To receive invitations to forthcoming events, you may subscribe to our mailing list by clicking on the following link.
The research group also organizes the international “Berlin Conferences on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change“.
Dr. Klaus Jacob presented LIAISE Toolbox at Joint Workshop of JRC and LIAISE on Soil Conservation in Ispra, Italy
Dr. Klaus Jacob has participated in a Workshop on April 24th of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and the Network of Excellence - Linking Impact Assessment to Sustainability Expertise (LIAISE) on the topic of “Mainstreaming soil conservation into policy impact assessment – Linking Sustainability Expertise”. Dr. Jacob introduced the LIAISE Toolbox for IA Tools.

LIAISE Session on „Does evidence help to promote transparency and accountability?” at the 2012 Earth System Governance Conference
In the context of the LIAISE (‘Linking Impact Assessment Instruments and Sustainability Expertise‘) Network of Excellence Dr. Sabine Weiland organised a panel at this year’s Earth System Governance Conference, which was held from 18-20 April in Lund, Sweden under the heading „Towards a Just and Legitimate Earth System Governance – Addressing Inequalities”.

Lecture by Klaus Jacob at the McPlanet-Congress 2012
Dr. Klaus Jacob was giving a lecture on the topic “Green Economy: Expectations, Conflicts and Positions” at the McPlanet-Congress in Berlin, Saturday, the 21st of April, 2012. The lecture was part of a workshop on the topic “Capitalism: Black spot on a Green Economy” that was organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation.

Publication on “Policy Assessment: the state of the art” by Sabine Weiland
Dr. Sabine Weiland, member of the Policy Assessment Research Group at FFU contributed, together with LIAISE researcher Dr. Camilla Adelle, University of East Anglia, an article on "Policy Assessment: the state of the art" to a special issue of “Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal” on the state of the art of impact assessment.

LIAISE Session at 2012 TEEB Conference
At the 2012 TEEB Conference on “Mainstreaming the Economics of Nature: Challenges for Science and Implementation”, held on 19-22 March 2012 in Leipzig, Johanna Ferretti and Dr. Sabine Weiland presented a paper on “Mainstreaming biodiversity – Tools for Integrating Ecosystems in Policy Impact Assessment”.

3rd Annual LIAISE Meeting in Bilbao, Spain
The LIAISE ('Linking Impact Assessment Instruments and Sustainability Expertise') Network of Excellence, which is co-coordinated by FFU, held its 3rd Annual Meeting from 14-16 March 2012 in Bilbao, Spain. Six researchers from FFU, among others Klaus Jacob, Sabine Weiland and Dirk Wascher attended the meeting, which was hosted by LIAISE partner TECNALIA Labein.

2012 Berlin Conference financially supported by DFG
The German Research Foundation will (as in 2010) financially support the organization of the Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change. The theme of the 11th Berlin Conference is “Evidence for Sustainable Development”.

Contributions of the Research Group to the Leuphana Sustainability Summit
On March 1st, 2012 Dr. Klaus Jacob, Dr. Sabine Weiland and Dirk Wascher participated in the Leuphana Sustainability Summit in Lüneburg with a special LIAISE session on “Policy Assessment – How to Include Scientific Knowledge in Political Decision Making” and a contribution to the LIAISE workshop on “Tools to Support Sustainability Transition in a Rural-urban Context”.

Klaus Jacob gives keynote address at EEEN forum in Leuven
On February 9, Klaus Jacob gave a keynote address at the European Environmental Evaluators Network forum in Leuven. His speech was entitled “Enhancing the use of impact assessment tools in policy making: bridging the gap between science and the policy making community”.

New Website for the project „Resource policy“ (PolRess)
Since the beginning of the year, the research group Policy Assessment of the FFU leads a consortium in a 3 ½ year´s project on “resource policy”, commissioned by the Federal Environmental Agency. The project's website has been launched recently.

Paper on environmental innovation and competitiveness
In the context of the project "Lead Market Strategies: First Mover, Early Follower, Late Follower" Rainer Quitzow has published the working paper entitled "Towards an integrated approach to promoting environmental innovation and national competitiveness".

Presentation on Solar Energy in India
On December 15, 2011 Rainer Quitzow held a presentation on the development of solar energy in India at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. The presentation was part of the second steering committee meeting of a joint research project with ZEW and the Fraunhofer Institute of Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) entitled "Lead Market Strategies: First Mover, Early Follower and Late Follower".
