Presentation on Solar Energy in India

01/02/2012

On December 15, 2011 Rainer Quitzow held a presentation on the development of solar energy in India at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. The presentation was part of the second steering committee meeting of a joint research project with ZEW and the Fraunhofer Institute of Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) entitled  "Lead Market Strategies: First Mover, Early Follower and Late Follower".

Rainer Quitzow presented initial findings from a case study on the development of solar energy in India, China, and Germany. He outlined key developments within India's "National Solar Mission" and provided background on the enabling environment for solar energy in the country more generally. He raised the question whether India's structural energy deficit and unstable supply conditions in its electricity sector may translate into a demand advantage for the development of off-grid / captive solar energy applications.
