Maria Rosaria Di Nucci joined the Environmental Policy Research Centre in 2004 as associate senior researcher and worked also as independent consultant. Di Nucci holds a masters degree in economics from the University of Rome (1979) and a PhD (1987) in the areas of technology, energy and environmental economics and policy from the University of Sussex (Science Policy and Technology Research Unit-SPRU). At the FFU she has coordinated the REALISE-Forum project (renewable energy and liberalisation in selected electricity markets) financed under the EC programme “Intelligent Energy Europe” and collaborated to the founding initiative for an International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). In the period 2005-2010 she has been member of the Consortium Concerto-Plus supporting the European Commission in the promotion of the CONCERTO initiative and has been task leader for the non technical monitoring (socio-economic impact assessment and planning & implementation process assessment). She is since 1999 an expert evaluator for the EU-Commission under the 5th, 6th and 7th Framework Programme and the SAVE/ALTENER Programme and evaluates projects and programmes on behalf of European research organisations.

Presently, she takes part in the evaluation of the “National Climate Initiative” of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

Previously she held an executive position as Head of the Climate Protection Group at the Ministry of Urban Development and Environmental Protection of the Land Berlin (1989-2001) and was lecturer in industrial economics at the Technical University of Berlin (1985-89). At the Berlin Ministry she was responsible for initiation and management of projects in the following areas: CO2 abatement measures and policies; development of the energy programme; implementation of pilot projects on energy efficiency and renewables; international networking (ICLEI, Climate Alliance); pilot projects on joint implementation. Further past activities include: collaboration with the journals New Energy and Neue Energie, participation in the EU (Interreg IIIb) project “Alpine Wind harvest”, a study for the dena (German Federal Energy Agency) on measures for the export promotion of German firms in the renewables market segment; a feasibility study on projects concerning biogas (esp. landfill and waste water) in Italy and a feasibility study on bio-fuel in Southern Italy.

Liberalisation of electricity and gas markets, comparative analyses in energy and climate policy, distributed generation, financing mechanisms and incentives for renewable energy. Evaluation methods (esp. sustainability and socio-economic assessment), evaluation of energy projects and programmes.
