Dr. Klaus Jacob is research director of the Environmental Policy Research Centre and has been a senior research fellow at the FFU since 1995. He is head of the research group Policy Assessment which works in the fields of impact assessment, evidence-based policy making, strategies in environmental and sustainability policy, ecological modernization as well as innovation and lead markets. The work of his research group combines both, basic research and applied policy consultancy for national and international clients.
He is co-coordinator of the European network of excellence LIAISE, in which impact assessment models are developed and their applications were studied. He was member of an expert group of the European Commission to develop options for strengthening Responsible Research and Innovation in European research policies. Klaus Jacob is chair of the steering committee of the Berlin Conferences series on the Human Dimension of Global Environmental Change and president of the executive board of The Integrated Assessment Society (TIAS). He was Lead Author for the Global Environmental Outlook 4, reviewer for GEO 5 and Lead Author for GEO 6 of the United Nations Environmental Program. He is also member of the board of the Periodical for Environmental Policy & Environmental Law (ZfU) and alternate member of the Management Board of the European Environmental Agency (EEA). Moreover, Klaus Jacob is journal referee for various journals, including World Development, Research Policy, Environmental Science & Policy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Land Use Policy, Forest Policy and Economics, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Energy Policy, and Ecological Economics. He teaches courses in policy analysis as well as political science methods and theories at the Otto Suhr Institute of Freie Universität Berlin.
