Fandom is a widespread phenomenon oriented towards a wide array of objects. The project analyses fans of various objects in comparative perspective, such as sport-, music-, film-, TV-and cars-fans, as well as fans of high culture. What behaviour is typical for which fans? What does it mean to be a fan, concerning activity as well as self interpretation? Perspectives on fandom are search or reinforcement of identity, distinction, and event management.
As part of a research course students carried out approx. 60 semi-structured interviews with fans of various objects.
In a parallel effort, by e-mail fans were asked to fill out an online questionnaire. The questionnaire (in German) can be found at: www.fanforschung.de.
