Job Opening: 2x Student Assistant (m/f/d) 41 hours per month limited to 2 years Code: SHK GENDER 2023

Application deadline: 29.01.2024

News from Jan 10, 2024

We are looking for two student assistants for the Department of Sociology with a focus on Gender Studies of the Einstein-Profile-Professor Kathrin Zippel at the Institute of Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin.

Knowledge economies have been undergoing transformations through economic, social, political, technological, pandemic-related, and other global processes. Academia is considered as a site for contestation over the production of gendered knowledge and over
ideas on the promotion of equality and diversity. The research unit will pursue several research projects for example on how globalization (re-) configures gender inequalities and diversity by focusing on opportunities but also barriers to academic mobility. Another project will focus on the diffusion of ideas in discourses on gender and science including comparing policy reports in several English-speaking countries, the UN and the EU. The goal is to examine how demands for equality create tensions across institutions, countries, and regions of the world. The projects will use mixed-methods approaches, including qualitative interviews with and documents from stakeholders and policy makers etc. Computational text analysis methods will allow us to analyse gendered debates, identify the potentially gendered network structures among institutions and actors and trace the diffusion of ideas. We offer a friendly and open working environment as well as first-hand insights into interdisciplinary academic research.

Responsibilities:

Support in research, teaching and administration of the department:
1. research support, including data collection and preparation (e.g., reviewing interview transcripts), qualitative coding, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, literature searches, and preparation of publications and other materials for dissemination;
2. teaching support, e.g. literature research, preparation of teaching materials (slides) and working with Blackboard;
3. support with administrative tasks, including looking after guests, organisation, planning and implementation of 2/4 SHK GENDER 2023-D events, workshops, team meetings, etc.

Desired:

- Enrolment in sociology, political science, economics or a comparable discipline;
- Good academic performance;
