Master’s Programme in International Relations

This internationally focused Master´s programme in International Relations is a combined programme of the Freie Universität Berlin, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the University of Potsdam (Standard length of study: 4 semesters). The Master’s programme can also be studied as a double Master’s degree.

Object of the Programme

The programme has the aim of making the students practically and theoretically competent to deal with the complexity of world politics in the 21st century and in doing so, preparing the students for a wide range of professional occupations in administration, political consultancy, the economy and academia on a national and international scale. The programme provides extended academic and professional skills, specifically theories and methods in international relations, abilities and accomplishments for academic work as well as empiric specialist skills in the area of international politics. Through the cooperation of the three universities, the students profit from an extensive choice of studies which encompasses a broad spectrum of theoretical approaches, thematic fields and extensive regional expertise.

The Master’s programme in International Relations (MAIB) is studied with one of the two core areas Global Challenges or European Union Studies. The range of topics in studies include international organisations and institutions, international economic relations, comparative foreign policy and regional analyses, EU studies as well as the policies of peace and security.

After successful completion of studies the title “Master of Arts (MA)” will be awarded.
