The KFG is pleased to announce the launch of the newly-published volume "European Public Spheres. Politics is Back", edited by KFG-director Thomas Risse. The book was published in November 2014 by Cambridge University Press, but an exclusive double book launch event will take place in the coming semester. The book launch will consist of two parallel events, which will take place both in Brussels and in Berlin. They will take the form of an interactive panel discussion, followed by a reception.

This new book, edited by Thomas Risse, offers a profound analysis of the politicization of public spheres in Europe, thereby providing an insight to the development of a European public sphere over the last sixty years. It furthermore discusses various aspects of the relationship between Europeanization and European identity. The collection of contributions from leading scholars, whose work has been at the forefront of research on the politics of the European public sphere, develops one powerful claim: the Europeanization of national and issue-specific publics is here to stay.

Contributors to the book are: Thomas Risse, Barbara Pfetsch, Annett Heft, Ruud Koopmans, Cathleen Kantner, W. Lance Bennett, Sabine Lang, Alexandra Segerberg, Sarah Harrison, Michael Bruter, Edgar Grande, Hanspeter Kriesi, Jeffrey T. Checkel and Andreas Follesdal

To get more information on the book and its authors, please visit the publisher’s website here.

In order to celebrate the launch of this book and to discuss the issues raised in it, we would like to invite you to join us for the panel discussion, either in the premises of the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin or in the European Parliament building in Brussels. For both events, Thomas Risse as well as other authors contributing to the volume will be present to offer brief presentations and to debate with the audience on the question of the emergence of a European Public Sphere.
