Abstract
Regional integration has been a goal in Latin America since several decades, although most initiatives have featured negative integration. During the 80s however, the Andean Community transplanted the European Court of Justice along with its system of judicial remedies, with the hope that this would bolster the process of legal, economic, and political integration. How did this decision come about and who where the relevant actors that participated in the transplantation?
This paper claims that network analysis can shed light on these questions as it identifies several trans-regional epistemic networks that reproduce European norms and convictions about regional integration. These networks spread knowledge about European institutions motivating much of the isomorphism that can be seen in comparative regional integration.
