Abstract
This paper will explore whether and to what extent the (legal) rules of coordination that originated and developed in the EU can be transposed to SADC - a region characterised by high levels of migration, weakly developed social security systems and the absence of suitable portability arrangements. As such, it is a paper that can be characterised as ―diffusion in action. In contrast to most studies in the diffusion of ideas that generally involve an analysis of diffusion ex-post, this study represents an ex ante exploration of the possibility of diffusing certain aspects of EU coordination law to a different context. As such, it is hoped that it will make a contribution to the growing literature on the diffusion of ideas, which has become a central research theme in political science, sociology, law, history, and economics.
