Gary Marks is Burton Craige Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and founding Director of the UNC Center for European Studies. Marks has been National Fellow at the Hoover Institution (1986-87) and Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford in 1991-92, and Visiting Fellow at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung in 2002-03. He has held visiting professorships at Sciences Politiques, Paris (2002), Konstanz University, Germany (2000), the University of Twente, the Netherlands (1998). He was Hooker Visiting Professor at McMaster University. In 1998 Marks was elected Chair of the European Community Studies Association. Marks' teaching and research interests lie in the field of comparative politics.
