At the ICA Annual Conference 2025 in Denver/USA, network member Hanan Badr prominently presented the network's book "Cosmopolitan Communication Studies. Toward Deep Internationalization" which was published in spring 2025, during the opening event Looking Back, Forging Ahead.
At the IAMCR Annual Conference 2025 in Singapore, network members and book editors Melanie Radue, Anke Fiedler, and Carola Richter organized an internationally staffed panel titled "A Critical Dialogue on the Cosmopolitan Turn," where participants engaged with the contents of the book from their own perspectives. Commentators included Cherian George, Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University; Winston Mano, Professor at the University of Westminster; Michael Serwornoo, Professor at the University of Maryland; and Ylva Rodny-Gumede, Professor at the University of Johannesburg. They addressed topics such as the universalism of media and communication ethics, Afrokology as a complementary concept to cosmopolitanism to produce context-specific knowledge, and cosmopolitanism as part of global citizenship in teaching and research.
