Teresa Otten Dionísio (2017), Das philosophische Ethos als Freiheitspraxis. Eine Analyse der Möglichkeiten und Grenzen des Widerstands in der Theorie Foucaults, in: Phoenix Philosophy, 1-2017, S. 20-29.
As the ontological condition and scope for resistance, Foucault’s concept of freedom seems to enable the possibility for the deliberative change of existing power relations. In his essay "What is Enlightenment?" from 1984 he decisively formulates this possibility by introducing a ’philosophical ethos’ as a strategy for changing prevailing conditions. This kind of ethos as a practice of resistance presents itself, in light of Foucaults assumption of omnipresent power relations, as questionable and perhaps impossible. This essay pursues this con ict and determines the possibilities and constraints of Foucault’s resistance concept. It becomes clear that the sort of resistance he envisions is conceivable but the necessity and the assumptions it relies on, however, exceed the theoretical framework of his project.
