Laura Gerber studied Social Anthropology, Ethnology of Latin America and Sociology in Berlin and Melbourne (Australia). She completed her postgraduate studies in Cultural and Social Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin in 2007. She has carried out fieldwork in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Her main areas of interest are visual anthropology, visual culture, contemporary art, Southeast Asian cinema, Indigenous media projects and cultural globalisation.

Parallel to her work at university she is the director of Asian Hot Shots Berlin, a young festival for indpendent Asian cinema where she is the head of the Southeast Asian section.
