Award of a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for Dr Ramil Zamanov
News from Feb 09, 2026
The Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology welcomes Dr Ramil Zamanov as a guest researcher from April 2026–March 2028, enabled by a postdoctoral research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. During their stay at the IfSKA, Ramil Zamanov will conduct research on "Enforced Mobility in Authoritarian Regimes: Queer Immigration from Azerbaijan to Spain." The project examines the consequences of Azerbaijan's queer-phobic policies and the emigration of queer people to Spain, where a support infrastructure has developed in recent years. Building on ethnographic fieldwork with transnational support networks and in shelters for queer refugees in Spain, the project also analyses transnational solidarity as well as the everyday lives and perspectives of queer refugees in Spain. The Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology looks forward to working with Dr Ramil Zamanov and warmly welcomes them.
