The 70th Annual International Communication Association Conference with the theme Open Communication took place from May 20th to May 27th - this year in an eco-friendly way via a virtual conference space. The conference being a main event to the international communication research community, the Weizenbaum Institute's research group Digitalisation and the Transnational Public Sphere participated with numerous talks on their current research.
The project "Transnational Mobilization Networks on the Political Right?"discussed network structures of European right-wing parties during the 2019 election campaigns. In addition, the "Shared Issue Agendas During the 2019 EP Election" study examined common campaign themes of right-wing parties. The talk on "Transnational Journalism Networks 'From Below'" presented characteristics of transnational journalist collaborations. Other presentations talked about reasons for participation in online petitions comparing Germany and Australia as well as "Unexpected Narratives: Storytelling in Disability Advocacy in the United States and Australia".
