On November 19th Klaus Jacob hold a guest lecture on "Reducing the use of materials: Why and How?" at Humboldt University.
Possible instruments for limiting the use of materials and their justification were presented. The impacts of a demanding strategy on key economic and environmental parameter were analysed. Klaus Jacob demonstrated that achieving and ambitious reduction of the use of materials demands for a structural change in the economy which will not be caused by the current policy strategy. Such structural change would have considerable and positive side effects on GHG emissions, employment and economic performance.
