Governance for the Sustainable Economy: Institutional Innovation from the Buttom Up?

In the newest issue of the inter- and transdisciplinary journal GAiA, Klaus Jacob and Anna-Lena Guske - among others - tackle the question in how far non-state actors can shape institutional innovations for sustainable transformation processes.
The analysis shows that bottom up approaches can not only bring about technological innovations and social practices, but also institutional innovation: These include new networks and market mechanisms, instruments of corporate management or municipal planning. However, the paper does also point to the limits of bottom up institutions.
