Rainer Quitzow presented initial findings from a case study on the development of solar energy in India, China, and Germany. He outlined key developments within India's "National Solar Mission" and provided background on the enabling environment for solar energy in the country more generally. He raised the question whether India's structural energy deficit and unstable supply conditions in its electricity sector may translate into a demand advantage for the development of off-grid / captive solar energy applications.
