As of March 2022 Carolin Herdtle joined the Research Center for Sustainability's research group Policy Assessment as a research fellow. Within the BMBF-funded project "GoIngVis" she currently investigates pathways for small towns and their inhabitants towards climate resilience.

Until 2013 she studied social sciences at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg i.Br.

After graduating she worked with an interdisciplinary team at the Universtiy of Stuttgart's institute for urban development and specifically at its planning bureau as a research fellow for several projects with her main focus on integrative urban development and sustainable mobility. Furthermore, she holds a mediator certificate for ecosystem conversation and planning. Most recently she was engaged with the innovation management of a province-wide and open mobility platform of the transport company Baden-Württemberg mbH.

Her research interests comprise the management of municipal sustainability transformation processes, open innovation processes, and environment and technology sociology.
