Since March 2013 Nicole Mitchell (prev. Mahlkow) has been a research fellow for the DFG project “Urban Climate and Heat Stress in Mid-Latitude Cities in the View of Climate Change” at the Environmental Policy Research Centre.

Ms Mahlkow studied Political Science at the University of Potsdam, and after completing several internships focussing on questions with regard to urban and regional development, she started working as a research fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning. Here she was a part of the “Dynamics of Communication, Knowledge and Spatial Development” department, working on several third-party funded projects.

Between September 2010 and December 2012 as a member of the sub-project “Governance Structures” she analysed how climate change is perceived and dealt with in German coastal towns in the “Potsdam Research Cluster for Georisk Analysis, Environmental Change and Sustainability- PROGRESS”.
