The article presents current, preliminary results of the Horizon 2020 project WinWind. WinWind aims to enhance the socially inclusive and environmentally sound market uptake of wind energy by increasing its social acceptance in 'wind energy scarce regions'. In addition to the coordinator FFU, eleven other partner organizations from Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Spain are involved in this project. The article first discusses the current European energy policy, outlines goals and tasks of the WinWind project and then summarizes first insights into acceptance barriers and acceptance-promoting measures in Thuringia and Saxony.
