The Italian energy system is undergoing a paradigm shift - from a centralised, path-dependent institutional and organisational structure to a more fragmented and pluralistic one. In this context, Maria Rosaria Di Nucci and Andrea Prontera examine narratives, interests and problem understandings of different actors. They address the structural constraints that influenced the decision-making processes and organisation of the Italian energy sector and the socio-technical challenges opened up by enhancing renewables. In particular, citizen energy and renewable energy communities are examined as new forms of energy governance, and prospects for improved cooperation are offered. The article can be accessed here.
