Keynote by Prof. Partzsch at Symposium of German Association for Political Education (DVPB), Sept. 21, 2023, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany
Human activity and the exploitation of nature have reached a scale that exceeds planetary boundaries and endangers the livelihoods of humanity. The concept of sustainability, addressed by the United Nations with the Sustainable Development Goals, provides a guiding principle for the inevitable transformation of the prevailing lifestyle and economy. Against this backdrop, the 31st Day of Political Education Lower Saxony focuses of political education inside and outside school in the process of this socio-ecological transformation. Core competencies of political education include the ability to think critically and socio-scientifically, to analyze reflectively, to criticize existing conditions, to assess and position oneself in political conflicts. At the same time, however, there is a danger in the context of sustainability education that political education is reduced to imparting supposedly already established solution approaches and measures. This would depoliticize political education. At the Symposium, different perspectives are discussed and practical examples are presented through scientific impulses, workshops and discussions.
Registration is possible from June 12, 2023.
