How to apply
Does the program suit my requirements?
If you are considering applying to the Master’s program “Sociology – European Societies”, please take some time to look into its contents and structure via the Online Studies Selection Guide (OSA).
Admission depends on your grades and the number of applicants.
Indispensable requirements are:
- A Bachelor of Arts degree (or equivalent) with at least 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits of course contents in Sociology.
60 ECTS credits are equivalent to approximately one year of full-time study or 12 courses.
- English proficiency at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. You can find more information and an overview of accepted certificates of your English language skills on our FAQ page Which certificates will be accepted as a sufficient proof of my English language skills?'
- At least 10 ECTS credits in the field of methods of empirical social sciences.
Admission for the first semester of the master’s program is only possible for the winter semester. You can usually apply between April 15 and May 31. You have to submit all relevant documents during that period. Please submit your graduation certificate and Transcript of Records as officially certified copies via posted mail (as hardcopies). Due to the Corona pandemic, certificates can be handed in online if they have an official digital signature that can be authenticated.
This year, the Admissions Office of Freie Universität Berlin sends letters of admission and letters of rejection via regular postal service starting at the end of July.
