As a language of global significance, regional integration, and cultural identity, Kiswahili plays a vital role in our connected world. We want to take this opportunity to come together, appreciate the richness of the language, and engage in cultural exchange and debate.

Programme:

• 2:00 PM — Welcome & Introduction
  Opening remarks by organizers Amal Abbas, Franz Grill, Neema Kasabo, Dr. Jasmin Mahazi, Kristina Mashimi, and Emma Röhl. Introduction to Woven Community Circles.
• 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM — Information Booth
  Hosted by Kiswahili Students at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology. Featuring poetry, culture, food, and games.
• 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM — Panel Discussion: Language, Power, and Unity
  Kiswahili as a Decolonial Force in (East) Africa? Moderated by Emma Röhl and Franz Grill.
• 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM — Khanga Printing Workshop & Music
  Workshop facilitated by Zinzi Samuels and Jesse Bitrus, featuring a live performance of the Khanga Song by Gando Osofu.
• 6:00 PM — Closing Reflections
  Workshop wrap-up by Amal Abbass and Dr. Jasmin Mahazi.
• 6:30 PM — Comedy Performance & Get-together
  Stand-up show by internationally renowned Tanzanian comedian Captain Khalid, followed by a community gathering with authentic East African food.
