Sandra Calkins, arbeitet seit 2015 über molekularbiologische Pflanzenforschung und Mensch-Pflanzen-Beziehungen in Uganda und Australien. Dazu gehörte neben einer fast 16-monatigen ethnographischen Feldforschung in Gärten, Testfeldern, Gewächshäuser und Laboren auch Archivarbeit über koloniale Botanik im Nationalarchiv in Kampala und im Archiv von Kew Gardens in London, und ein mehrfach unterrichtetes Seminar über Mensch-Pflanzen-Beziehungen (SoSe 2016, WS 2018/19). Sie verfügt über eine Expertise in der Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung (STS), Multispecies Studies (besonders Critical Plant Studies), Materialität, Technologie und Infrastruktur, den Logiken und Dynamiken wissenschaftlicher Testverfahren, sowie aktuellen Klima- und Umweltfragen.
