"Social Media and the 'Arab Spring' - what remains? Encounters from Egypt and Yemen"

Social Media are said to have played a massive role in facilitating the uprising of the so called "Arab Spring". But what remains almost 4 years after these uprisings? Has the euphoria about social media effects vanished? Are social media still important to fulfill the informational needs of the broader public? Who uses social media and for which purposes?
These and other questions about the current status of social media and their role in society are tackled by to distinguished scholars providing ample information on the situation in Egypt and Yemen.
The public lectures take place in the framework of the WinterSchool "Social Media and Teaching" bringing together students and scholars from 7 Arab countries and Germany to discuss innovative methods of including social media in teaching communication studies. The WinterSchool is part of the DAAD-funded project "Communication in Transformation - Transforming Communication Studies", initiated by Prof. Dr. Carola Richter.
