The research unit Macrosociology investigates differences in attitudes and behaviour between European countries and over time. Our main research endeavour is to understand (1) why citizens from different countries vary (or not) in their attitudes and behaviour and (2) why citizens' attitudes and behaviour vary (or not) over time. In our comparative approach, we focus in particular on attitudes towards immigration, the EU, denationalisation, identity politics and social policies. Moreover, we investigate forms of behaviour linked to the transnationalisation, diversification and social cohesion of society (such as transnational social practices, immigrants´ integration patterns, group conflict, collective action and social solidarity).
