More information about the Silent Reading Room

The Silent Reading Room at Ihnestr. 21 is reserved for quiet work. Group work spaces can be found in Garystraße 55.

Please place your jackets, coats, and bags (including laptop bags) in one of the available lockers before entering the reading room. Lockers can be found in the reading room lobby. We recommend that you keep valuables on your person at all times.

Equipment

            72 work spaces with electrical sockets
            Free Wi-Fi via Freie Universität’s FUnkLAN campus network (requires ZEDAT’s VPN client)
            4 thin clients with Internet access in the Periodical Reading Room
            1 thin client for online research in the Silent Reading Room lobby

Copying and Printing Facilities

            1 multifunctional device in the Silent Reading Room lobby
            1 multifunctional device and 1 scanner (free of charge!) in the Copying Room
            1 scanner and 1 scan tent in the Periodical Reading Room

 

The multifunctional devices are operated by Ricoh and can be used in combination with the Mensacard. You can top up your Mensacard in the OSI canteen on the upper floor of Ihnestraße. 21.

One-sided, black and white A4 copies cost 5 cents; scans cost 4 cents.

Collections and Resources

The Silent Reading Room contains approximately 12,500 books, all systematically arranged according to the Regensburg Union Classification.

The Reference Library for the individual seminars in political science, sociology, social and cultural anthropology, media and communication studies, and East European studies is also located here. Current course reading lists are located on the Reference Library shelves.

The collections in the Reading Room and the Reference Library are available for overnight and weekend loan.
Monday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 a.m. of the following opening day at the latest.

Newspapers and periodicals are located in the Periodical Reading Room, which can be found adjacent to the Silent Reading Room.
