Horizon 2020 project WinWind to increase acceptance of wind energy in Europe
News from Oct 28, 2017
The new Horizon 2020 project WinWind, coordinated by the Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU) of the Freie Universität Berlin, kicked off with a first partner meeting in Brussels (Belgium) on 16 -17 October 2017. Representatives of DG Energy and the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) took part in the meeting.
WinWind – an acronym for “Winning social acceptance for wind energy in wind energy scarce regions“ – aims to strengthen social acceptance of wind energy in regions where wind power plants are comparatively lacking. The project will analyse the profile of regional and local communities in selected locations, including their socioeconomic and spatial/environmental characteristics, and define the reasons for the slow market deployment of wind energy.
The project will also identify factors that inhibit and drive social acceptance, carry out consultations in the target regions, and stimulate transfers of good practice solutions within local, regional, and national contexts. Towards the end of the project, partners will reflect on the experience gained to prepare a set of policy recommendations.
The WinWind project started on 1 October 2017 and has a duration of 30 months. The project consortium is comprised of a multi-disciplinary group of 12 partners from six countries. They are:
- Asociación Canaria de Energías Renovables (ACER), Spain
- Center for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), Norway
- Ecoazioni, Italy
- ECORYS españa, Spain
- ENEA (Agenzia nazionale per le nuove tecnologie, l'energia e lo sviluppo economico sostenibile), Italy
- ICLEI European Secretariat (ICLEI)
- Institute of Physical Energetics (IPE), Latvia
- Latvian Environmental Investment Fund (LEIF), Latvia
- Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), Norway
- Polish National Energy Conservation Agency (KAPE), Poland
- Seecon Ingenieure GmbH, Germany
