New publications on transformation-geared environmental policy for a socio-ecological transition of the nutrition system

News from Jan 03, 2022

The current nutrition system does not correspond to the principles of sustainable development. There is an urgent need for a fundamental socio-ecologic transition towards a healthy nutrition within the given planetary boundaries. How can (environmental) policy take action and design a transformation of the nutrition system?

In an Interim report for the Federal Environmental Agency, that was elaborated under the lead of the FFU, the authors extent and specify the concept of a transformative environmental policy and derive policy instruments for a transformation of the nutrition system. In a second step, the authors assess the political feasibility of selected measures using an actor-network-analysis. This analysis shows that innovative instruments like subsidies for meat-substituting products are politically feasible in a high degree while the acceptance for exnovative measures is considerably low.
