Laura Gorriahn was a research associate in the ERC-funded research project “Protest and Order. Democratic Theory, Contentious Politics and the Changing Shape of Western Democracy” (POWDER) at the Freie Universität Berlin. The project was transferred to the Humboldt-University of Berlin in 2020. From 2016 to 2018 she was a research associate at the Center for Politics and Law. She holds an M.A. “Human Rights and Democratisation” from the European Inter-University Centre Venice and the Eric-Castren Institute of International Law and Human Rights Helsinki. Prior to that, she studied Political Science, History and German Studies at the University of Freiburg, Trinity College Dublin and the University of Basel (M.A. equivalent). In her dissertation project, shescrutinises precarious democratic membership as a manifestation of the controversial relationship between state exclusion and universal equality. The study combines perspectives from democratic theory and critical migration studies and looks at protest of non-citizens and their supporters against deportations.
