In a newly published article in the International Studies Quarterly, Tobias Berger analyzes the fragmentation of global human rights discourses in competing ideological projects in which different human rights concepts are embedded. The focus is on examining the meaning and impact of human rights outside of liberal script. For this, however, human rights do not have to be considered in isolation, but their meaning must be determined within larger ideational formations.The added value of this expanded understanding is illustrated using two case studies.
