The two-semester schedule (Fall and/or Spring, with the option of subsequent enrolment in FU’s Sommersemester from April to July) includes courses in history, comparative literature, sociology, film studies, political science, philosophy, architecture, art history, etc.

Most but not all of the content courses are taught in English. Additionally, a comprehensive language program is offered; enrolment in German language is mandatory.

The program features visits to exhibitions, concerts, and opera performances, as well as a week-long excursion to varying destinations within Germany and neighboring countries

FU-BEST is especially intended for students from North America. Formal cooperative agreements have been concluded with renowned universities such as the University of California System, the University of North Carolina, the University of Maryland, and the American University.
