You are all very welcome and invited to join our MA Sociology Information Session, given by our study coodinator, Saskia Duchow, on 29.10.2025. It will take place in lecture hall B in Ihnestr. 21, 14195 Berlin. This Information Session could be especially useful for new MA students of our program, as it gives detailed information and clarification on the following topics:

Agenda:

  • Program structure
  • Examination
  • Grading
  • Plagiarism
  • Who to contact
  • External courses
  • New study regulation: most relevant changes
  • Jobs, e.g. student assistant positions

The session will be around 90 minutes long and holds space for specific questions and further clarifications if needed. If you are a new student at the FU or have recently started you should join the session! Especially if you have questions such as the following:

  • What’s the difference between active participation and a module examination?
  • What type of exam do I need to take for which module?
  • Can I take one seminar of a module at a later point as the other seminar/lecture of the same module?
  • Can I structure the MA program differently than the recommended plan and what is to be considered?
  • What if I fail an exam?
  • How is the grade of a module determined?
  • Is it possible to participate in courses at other universities in Berlin and get them credited for a module at our MA program?
  • How do I know what counts as plagiarism?
  • Who do I contact regarding specific questions?
  • What do I need to know about the new study regulation?
  • What possibilities exist to obtain a student assistant position?
