We are pleased to announce that KFG Working Paper No. 48 "The EU as a Multilateral Rule Exporter. The Global Transfer of European Rules via International Organizations" has been published.
Within the paper, Mathieu Rousselin investigates the multilateral transfer of European rules and the conditions under which a variety of states grouped within an international organization adopt EU rules rather than any alternative rule for selection. The author proposes theoretical amendments to existing models of bilateral rule transfer, diffusion or convergence in order to capture the original forms and new channels via which the EU can either impose constraint or seek consent at the multilateral level. On this basis, two hypotheses are formulated whose plausibility is subsequently probed in four comparative case studies dedicated to the worldwide transfer or non-transfer of European rules via international organizations.
