Despite the less-than-successful outcome of the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference, environmental issues remain near the top of the international agenda. This is very much the case in the EU and its individual member states as well. This course intends to provide the student with an overview of and deeper insight into environmental politics and policy on three interlinked levels: national, EU, and global. Attention will be given to treaty regimes, policy debates and decisions, environmental activism and interest groups, the interaction between economics/business and environmental concerns, and the role played by environmental issues in the conduct of EU and national diplomacy.
