Feminism encompasses a myriad of topics, ideologies, allegiances, communities, histories, strategies and peoples. However, who has conventionally been thought to belong to this global sisterhood and whose needs are marginalized? The feminist terrain is not without contestation or confrontation; how-ever, some voices ring louder than others do, because global power asymmetries affect relationships and allegiances among feminists even inside the feminist arch. Transnational feminist coalitions are being challenged by having to both overcome borders while also recognizing and accepting difference. In this class, we will explore transnational feminism, we will expose its limits and its beneficence by looking at the contributions from various epochs and communities and where they meet and diverge. This course approaches the topic of transnational feminism dialogically and asks whose sister-hood is this?
