The End of the West? Conclusions

Risse, Thomas – 2006

What is underneath the recent conflicts between the U.S. and Europeans? Is it all about the Bush Administration, post 9/11 U.S. foreign policy, or the rupture about the Iraq war? If so, a return of U.S. foreign policy toward more centrist positions and of more atlanticist governments in Germany and France might be all that is needed to get the Euro-Atlantic relationship back on track. Alternatively, are we witnessing the beginning of the end of a happy transatlantic relationship, the gradual whithering away of NATO, as some scholars had already predicted after the end of the Cold War?
