The requirements for undergraduate programs include:

  • a certificate of Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung - HZB) that is sufficient for the desired study program
  • an admissions notice (in combination bachelor's programs admissions notices for both major and minor subjects)
  • proof of language skills in German and English. German skills on a high level are an essential precondition for studying at our department as most of the study units of the master’s programs are taught in German.

If your educational background is insufficient for admission to Freie Universität Berlin, a one-year school-type preparation at the Studienkolleg may be an alternative.

Language Requirements

The Bachelor’s program Media and Communication Studies requires a high level of proficiency in German as well as good English language skills. Proof of these skills must be provided as part of the application.

Restricted Admissions (Numerus Clausus)

Like other higher education institutions in the region that regularly receive large numbers of applications, Freie Universität Berlin has implemented Admission Limits (Numerus Clausus) for all undergraduate programs including the bachelor’s program Media and Communication Studies.
